On my ever ending quest to review books here is another book towards my 200 books this year of reading.
This book “Gut” The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Underrated Organ by Giulia Enders is extremely educational. Funny as it sounds it starts out explaining the reasons for pooping and how it works. Giulia goes deeply into how your gut works. What I have learned through this book was far more knowledge than I have ever had about how my gut works and the importance of keeping this organ healthy. Turns out that the early education I received about how our bodies work and what is healthy was not entirely correct or completely accurate.
I was having health issues many years ago and started down this path of learning how to better help myself. I took nutrition classes and discovered I was not eating enough food so therefore it was causing me to gain weight instead of lose it. Then I discovered that I was allergic to of all things Formaldehyde. I had no idea where that was coming from. So more research. Long story short about health issues I found this book and it was wonderful. I have always believed that my issues where in my gut. This is the first book that I have found that actually explains why.
Another portion of the book covers about the bacteria and parasites within our bodies. It sounds gross but the information she provides in this book is worth the read. I believe that part of our problem is the 20th century food. How it is grown, how it is processed, how it is cooked etc. The best thing we could do for ourselves is educate ourselves on health, nutrition and focus on improving our health.
Guilia stated that “Fructose intolerance can be the result of a severe hereditary inability to metabolize fruit sugar, which causes patients’ digestive systems to react to even the tiniest amounts of substance.” And to further that thought we are addicted to sugar. Which we now all know is horrible problem today.
Again I highly recommend this book for you to read. Informative and educational. I was not sure the book would hold my interest. I was thinking it was going to read more like a text book. It did not. I found it to be very funny and I could not stop reading it.
