I never know what next project is going to come into my studio. Aprons have been around for a very long time. The styles of the aprons have changed as have the reasons for wearing them. Today’s aprons are now more like artwork or an extention of our outfit. The creativity is fantastic. My current project is aprons. I love aprons and am always on the look out for more ideas and patterns to create them. I have made 6 of them in this style so far. And of course they all have zippers on them.
This months challenge is how many different things can I make with zippers. The first thing I did was a 9 patch quilt made entirely of zippers. This process took a while. I had to sew each zipper to a stabilizer then go back and sew decorative stitches on it. I can tell you my fingers were pretty sore after putting on all the zipper pulls on the aprons and the quilt. I love the way everything has turned out.
This project was the aprons. (More ideas will follow in future posts.) Funny when you start to do a project with one idea and then the ideas grow and you come up with more and more ideas of what to do on the project. I know I am not alone in this thinking that I can think up more ideas in my head faster than I can create them all. Oh my brain hurts… ouch. I think I am going to have to record my ideas and maybe that will help me get more of them done.
There are 5 pockets in the front of the apron. The middle one is great for holding your cell phone while you are cooking. My luck I would drop my phone in the frying pan. All the pulls on the zipper tape work. This took me the longest to do. Knowing and doing are definitely two different things.
The fabric and zippers were provided by The Zipper Lady.
Now on to my next zipper project. I am thinking coin purses and toiletry bags. Of course I will embroider on them. Till we meet again..later
