To me watching a seed grow is wonderous. I love to check them every day just to see how big the plants have gotten. It makes me feel at one with nature. I even love the smell of the dirt while I am planting. I have always loved plants so it is no surprise that I have so many plants inside the house and a garden outside to play in. Although at the moment it is not as large as I would like. In all the years I have been playing with plants I will be the first to admit that I am no expert. There is always room for learning more about plants. That being said, I like to test different ways to grow plants as my process of leaning about how to grow plants better.
This year is no different except, now I am also interested in creating my own unique pots to plant in. My style is a country garden. The first type of pot that I have chosen to try is the standard terra cotta pot. I decided to painted several of them with an eggshell chalk paint on the bottom of the pot, and glued twine
around the top of the pot. I think it makes the pots look so clean and fresh. Fits in with the interior plants as well. Looks good in a country/farmhouse home.
Part of the fun for me is looking for all the parts to complete my projects with spending the least amount of money. I create a challenge for myself on each project. For my first pots I bought terra cotta pots https://www.walmart.com/ip/Terra-Cotta-Clay-Pot/766620373and the jute https://www.walmart.com/ip/Jute-Package-Twine-360-Feet-3-Ply-All-Natural-and-Biodegradeable-by-eco-Rope/753963949 at Walmart just to experiment on. I bought the chalk pant at Joann’s on sale.
I did not seal the pots before I started. I did not sand the pots. I began painting the pots with the chalk paint. This type of paint dries very quickly. The chalk paint is also thicker than acrylic paint so do not be surprised when you open the paint. The pot took two coats of paint to get good coverage. I used a low heat glue gun to glue the twine on the top of the pot. The whole process goes very quickly and can change to feel of any room instantaneously.
