By Nature, I am into sustainability and upcycling. I cannot stand to waste any products. Creating something new from something old is so satisfying. I must admit that I have been a little lazy lately. I have not been doing all that I could. With this new COVID-19 pandemic, I have been trying to get back to upcycling. My first step is to create paperless paper towels.
In my search for the fabric that I wanted to use has been challenging. I chose to use cloth diapers for the paperless towels. You cannot just run out to any store to pick up cloth diapers. I found some at Walmart. You can order online from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and on Amazon. I started with one dozen diapers for the paperless paper towels. Depending on your needs, you can increase how many you keep on hand.
I cut my diapers to 10″ X 7″, this is a manageable size for most messes. Once I cut the diapers to size, I serged the edges.
My settings on the serger is for a four-thread overlock stitch. The stitch length is 1.5. If you have a Baby Lock 8 thread serger, you can also do the wave stitch. You can serge a rolled hem in addition to the several choices on stitch edges. I used blue thread on the upper looper and green on the lower looper and blue on the needles.
To hide the ends on the diapers you will need to thread a large eyed needle and pull the tails back through the stitching.
This next step, you can sew small pieces of velcro to the edges of the cloth diapers so you can attach them to create a roll. I prefer to leave them flat and stack them.
I do hope you enjoy using the paperless paper towels. I will be experimenting with other fabrics soon also.
