With spring just around the corner, I have started to decorate for it. I love spring and all things related to spring. The first thing I wanted to do was find some interesting bunnies. I have been searching Arc and Goodwill. I may still find some there. My goal was to find things that I can upcycle or make into something different. I do a combination of DIY and upcycling and new things. I usually have an idea already of what I have in mind for my decorating. But, what I end up doing depends largely on what things that I find. What I found was a couple of bunnies at Hobby Lobby that I liked and may go back and get them. I bought two large bunnies as Scheel’s. This is a sporting goods store that actually has a home decorating section. Now most of us do not think of Scheel’s when looking for things for the home but, they have a lot of really nice things to choose from. What appealed to me about the bunnies is that the resin looks like stone. They are actually heavy like stone. I also found a tray I liked at Scheel’s. Now I have the beginnings of my project. I searched a lot of stores looking for ideas for the green that I wanted to set the bunnies in, so it looked like spring grass. What I choose was green moss you can find at Joann’s, or any craft and garden store. I next found the tall grass and the flowers at Joann’s. I searched for a while for the eggs and again found those at Joann’s. I found the cute carrots at Pier 1 Imports.
Part of the fun in doing the decorations is finding all the parts to create the whole idea. The second item I did was on a smaller scale for a cabinet near the front door. I had the tray already so I did not need to buy one. I found the white bunny at Joann’s. The eggs, moss and the carrots were left over from the other table scape. I used a real baby spider plant for the tall grass. The purple flowers I already had on hand. I bought more of the eggs because I love the natural look of them. They were used in the tall glass containers I currently have in my guest bathroom.
Another decoration I did was to put eggs, which are wire wrapped with colored raffia, in a glass jar. Next I created a grown up Easter basket. The basket I had on hand for years. I had to raise up the bunny and the eggs so you could see what was in the basket. I used a pillow. Found green grass as the grocery store and used that in the basket and added the wire wrapped eggs and a stuffed bunny. This stuffed bunny is called “Embroidery Buddy”. http://embroiderbuddy.com/ The stuffed animals from this company are created so you can embroider on their belly. Some people also choose to embroidery on the animals ears. You have so many different animals to choose from. I will post a tutorial on how to actually embroider on one of these animals in my next article.
